Printed Decor Paper are used to cover artificial boards
Printed decor paper has great influence on furniture impregnation and lamination process. Therefore, the quality of raw materials and printing is critical for a high-end decor paper. The raw material should have good opacity and uniform weight, as well as high light fastness and pure color. It is also important that it has a stable pH and excellent wet strength. The raw base paper for furniture decorative paper printing must be high quality and has sufficient wet strength. It should also meet the requirements of impregnation stability and color consistency. It should have good opacity and be uniform in weight, so that the melamine resin is well absorbed by the paper. Printed decor papers are used to cover artificial boards and are printed with different designs, from wood and stone patterns to fantasy designs. They are then saturated with melamine or urea formaldehyde resin and laminated to the wooden material.
In this study, the surface chemistry characteristics of two industrially printed decor papers (Walnut and Latin Walnut) were investigated using attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The cellulose characteristic peaks in the ATR spectra of both the unprinted and printed sides of the decor papers were identified. In addition, the effect of gravure printing ink on the surface chemistry of the decor papers was assessed. In the printed decor paper production process, an ink is sprayed onto a decorative paper base using an engraved roller. This interplay between paper color and printing ink enables limitless decorative designs from wood and stone patterns to fantasy colors. Printed decor paper is rolled into long, thin layers and then saturated with melamine resin before being laminated to substrates like chipboard or medium-density fibreboard (MDF) for use in furniture production. Traditionally, this has been done with printed wood designs using gravure printing lines, which require several weeks to set up and require engraved cylinders that are very expensive. The printing process is the most important factor in determining the quality of decorated paper. A high level of raw materials, a precise printing technology and quality control are essential for the production of decor papers that can be used for melamine impregnation, lamination, and furniture panels.
