During this process, the aqueous dispersions of the resins must be well mixed to prevent agglomeration and to achieve an even distribution of the resins on the cellulose surface. This is a critical factor for the production of a quality product.
To improve the physical properties of the resulting veneer and to expand its range of application, melamine-impregnated paper must be applied in a hot-pressing process. However, the high temperatures involved in this process can cause the impregnated paper to deteriorate and crack. This problem can be reduced by using lower temperature hot-pressing conditions and by storing the impregnated paper in a warehouse with proper storage conditions.
The quality of melamine-impregnated paper depends on the type of resin and the curing condition. Generally, the better the melamine resin, the more durable the resulting veneer will be. In addition, a higher melamine content will result in better moisture resistance and abrasion resistance. Moreover, the proper curing temperature and time will help to improve the abrasion resistance of the veneer. Besides these factors, the thickness of the melamine-impregnated paper will also influence its quality. It is important to ensure that the melamine-impregnated veneers are thin enough to prevent cracking during the heat pressing process.
